How to Turn Your Side Hustle Into a Full-Time Remote Job

Are you interested in turning your part-time side hustle into one of those full-time remote jobs you keep hearing about? If you think working from home full time is too ambitious of a goal to take on, think again.

We’ve listed tips to help you turn your part-time gig into a full-time remote job that will fatten your pocket.

Build a safety net before you dive in

Before you take the leap to invest in your side hustle, you’ll need to build up a financial safety net in case things don’t work out like you’ve planned. A general rule of thumb is to save up at least three months worth of your current salary, to help keep you afloat in case of emergency. By doing this you will be able to have a fallback plan in your back pocket.

Manage your time

One thing a lot of people don’t consider when they want to work remotely is the number of extra distractions that you’ll have to ignore. When you work in an office there probably isn’t a TV on the other side of the room, but when you work from home you have all sorts of distractions at your disposal.

These distractions can quickly turn your priorities into missed deadlines without proper time management. Creating a disciplined routine before taking your side gig full-time should be one of the first things you do as you make the transition.

Build up a list of clients

Unless you land a full-time job working with a company, chances are you will be branching out on your own as a freelancer or small business owner. This means that your income will be generated strictly from the work you can pick up through promoting your services to potential clients.

If you jump into things full-time and suddenly lose one or two of your biggest clients, you might be sent back to the rat race sooner than you expected. By building a solid foundation of clients, you can avoid a major financial hit because of your various sources of income.

Apply for full-time remote jobs

If freelancing or building your own business isn’t something you plan on doing right away, there are still a number of ways you can find full-time jobs that allow you to work from home. Using popular work from home job boards will give you access to thousands of full-time remote jobs in a variety of industries. You can also try your luck at applying for jobs that aren’t remote, and then if the company is interested, you could ask if remote work would be an option.

Increase your rates

The best way to turn your part-time side hustle into a full-time remote job is by increasing your rates periodically. When you first start out it may be wise to keep your rates low to average but you will find out that raising your rates is the best way to quickly replace your former full-time salary.

One way would be to raise your rates with each new client. This will allow you to slowly increase your income, as your higher rates will ultimately attract higher clientele.
